The MG34 (Maschinengewehr 34 or MG 34) is an iconic WW2 German weapon. Recoil operated and air cooled it was first tested in 1929 before being approved and adopted for service in 1934.
General issue to to units occurred in 1936. It paved the way for an entirely new concept in the use of automatic firepower. The Einheitsmaschinengewehr (Universal machine gun), truly the world's first general-purpose machine gun (GPMG).

The robust and highly versatile MG 34 was chambered for the 7.92 x 57 mm mauser round with the weapon designed to provide portable and flexible firepower in light, medium and anti-aircraft modes. With the right configuration it was even used for sniping.
Its ability to be carried by one man, being belt fed with relatively simple barrel changes and high rate of fire of 900 rounds per minute enabled the development of new and deadly infantry tactics.
As WW2 ramped up it entered service in great numbers from 1939 onwards. Whilst the design was excellent, it proved to be rather complex for mass production, and so was supplemented later by the cheaper and simpler to mass produce MG42 (we keep begging Denix for this one) and both remained in service and production until the end of the war to be seen carried by soldiers on foot or mounted on a wide range of vehicles.
The replica by Denix has been in the pipeline now for a while and we are excited to finally be getting our hands on these.
