The Colt Python is a high-end revolver designed and manufactured by Colt’s manufacturing Company of Hartford Connecticut in 1955.  Many handgun experts assert that it is the finest production revolver ever made.

 

It is a double action handgun built on Colt’s I-frame and was manufactured until 1999, its ventilated rib atop the barrel giving it a very distinctive look. Colt has in fact reintroduced manufacturing of Pythons in January 2020. 

 

Different barrel lengths were originally made including the 2.5 inch, 3 inch, 4 inch, 6 inch and 8 inch. 

 

The weapon was adopted by a number of US Police Forces as a hard-hitting service revolver until most Police Departments started to change from revolvers to smaller calibre automatic handguns.
