Recommendation for MM:
For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on the 23rd day of August 1918 at HERLEVILLE Wood. During the attack this soldier, who through casualties was left in charge of his section, made repeated trips under heavy machine gun fire, laying and repairing nine lines forward to rear and to the flank corps. He worked incessantly and untiringly throughout the operation and his good work helped considerably in maintaining communication between corps. His daring and courage was of a high standard.
